Day 38 Walden, CO to Saratoga, WY

Friday, June 24, 2011

Miles 69.3 Total 2571.13 Daily Avg 67.7
Avg Speed 16.6 Max Speed 45 mph

Colorado has lived up to it's motto 'The Colorful State” we have now crossed into Wyoming the”West Forever” state. The ride today was fantastic mostly downhill with some cross winds and at times a tail winds. At one point I coasted for 3 miles at over 30 mph. The roads are straight with wide arching curves to take us around the mountains. We are seeing more wildlife, several prong horned deer, road squirrels, prairie dogs and the mosquitoes large enough to be classified as birds.

Tonight we are camping alongside Saratoga Lake in Saratoga, WY. Saratoga is a tourist town known for fishing hunting, white water rafting and outdoors activities. The Platte River which flows through town is at flood levels, requiring the town to erect berms and sand bags on many sections of town. Because of the flooding it is to dangerous for rafting or fishing on the river.
Our campsite is perfect, on a grassy bank of the Lake Saratoga. It is a picture perfect scene providing a beautiful sunset and sunrise with a star filled sky last night.
