Last night was a cold one. Woke up this this morning to frost. We were lucky, Monday Fairplay had snow. Before starting the day our hostess "Grandma" prepared breakfast, fresh pancakes sausage and eggs from the chickens in the backyard. A great hearty breakfast to start the day.
The four of us were riding again today up and over Hoosier Pass. We climbed about 3000 ft over 4 miles to the Continental Divide. From there was a rapid decent down into Breckenridge. We covered 5 miles in 11 minutes. I left the younger ones to lead the way and used my brakes more often. Their max speeds were well into the forties. With the little hair I have left it was a hair raising ride. Tight switchbacks and long steep downhills. We cruised into Friso after 31 miles and met my sister Marian and nephew Justin. Justin will be spending the next few weeks with us and co-piloting for Joey. We had a terrific pizza at our favorite pizza joint in Frisco. It was not the same without our nephew Jeff who has been with us on previous skiing trips.
Michael and Jeremy left us after lunch. Kelly and I continued on another 64 miles to Hot Sulfur Springs. I am usually a very reserve person but the views and scenery today were spectacular and would bring on shouts of amazement when we came over a pass and viewed snow capped mountains in the distance or a deer standing on a river bank as the water rushed past. The mountains received 250% of the normal snow fall this year causing the rivers to over flow with the melting snow. The meadows are full of wild flowers and lush green grass.

Jim,
ReplyDeleteIt's all downhill from here! The map idea is great but I can't get it to work. Have fun.

That sounds and looks beautiful. Sounds like a hairy ride. Dorothy and I loved Breckenrige. You both are exhibiting not an ounce of fat. I would say more pancakes would be just fine. Joey looks bored. Find him another pub stop. Hope Justin enjoys.
