Day 25 Golden City, MO to Girard, KS

Friday, June 10, 2011

Miles 48.76   Total 1563.53   Daily Avg 62.54
Avg speed 15.0   Max speed 23.4    Alt climbed 925

Fantastic day, cooler weather, flat roads, some tail winds, completed our 4th map and into our 5th state, Kansas. It is hard to believe we are in Kansas, the state of my birth.  In a little over a week we will be in Colorado. Pueblo, CO is our halfway point.

We encountered another detour today as we came upon a road closed sign stating the bridge was closed two miles ahead.  We decided to take a chance that we could get over or around the bridge.  If not, two miles of backtracking wouldnt hurt.  Our luck held as the construction was almost complete.  We were able to cross without any problems.

We rode a short day today of 48 miles, completed by 10:30 and jumped into the car for a two hour drive north to Kansas City. Visited Jack Stack Barbecue restaurant on the recommendation from a parent at the baseball game last evening. The recommendation did not disappoint us. The restaurant was downtown and served delicious BBQ meats and sandwiches. The afternoon was spent touring Kansas City and hanging out in the Power Light District listening to music. Before calling it a night Joey and I visited the Harrah's Casino just down the rode from our hotel.

Tomorrow we will sleep in and ride later in the afternoon. The weather forecast is for cooler weather, which is a welcome relief.
